Our work includes the renovation and construction of both commercial and residential buildings, custom kitchens and baths, custom home interiors, timber frame home construction, custom millwork and fine furniture.
Builders Commonwealth is based in Duluth, Minnesota and principally provides construction services in a market area extending up the north shore of Lake Superior, and throughout Minnesota and northern Wisconsin.
Builders Commonwealth takes great pride in our work. We strive for durable artistic solutions for each project. Our renovation and restoration work is a delicate balance between preservation and functional needs. We blend traditional and innovative materials with energy efficient construction, customized to the owners taste and budget.
We constructed a passive solar demonstration project in Hermantown in 1981, with monitors installed by Boeing Aerospace. This was one of 5 projects selected nationwide.
Our offices and cabinet shop on Garfield Ave. features 48 280watt solar panels. We also installed a similar solar panel system at the offices of the US Forest Service.
Our renovation of the Duluth Whole Foods Coop, Hillside store, was the first LEED certified retail food store in Minnesota. Our in-house architect designed the new Food Coop Store in Grand Maris which we built to superinsulation standards in 2013. They have now added a significant amount of solar panels on their roof.
Our recent residential projects include a whole house renovation on the former Washburn residence, complete with customized cabinets, bathrooms, and radon mitigation. We also completed an unusual addition to a cabin on Pequayan Lakes, with recycled wood interior paneling, and thermally modified decking. This summer, a new retirement home near Split Rock Lighthouse will be ready for move-in!
